Drew Schueler – Hurtable

The song that drew our attention to Nashville-based Drew Schueler belongs to a rare kind. It's one of those songs that feel special to both the listeners and their creators from the very first notes and lines of lyrics – a moment of truth.

Apart from the sincerity and vulnerability of the lyrics and the catchiness of the melody, it's notable for its rich production – cinematic synth textures and an almost tribal drum pattern.

From the day we wrote ‘Hurtable’ we knew we had something special. I wrote it Nell Maynard and Claire Flynt at my old studio setup, and we just kept churning out line after line. I’ll never forget how excited we were when we got the lyric “finally found a match that can burn it all down”. This song was different and raw - and we all could feel it. When the song won the grand prize for the NSAI Song Contest, one of the prizes was a single song agreement for ‘Hurtable’ but I ended up deciding to keep it for myself. Deep down, I knew that it had to be me to tell this story.

Banyan & Fractures – Uncover

"Uncover" is s standout due to the way it brings together atmospheric and cinematic synth arps with intimate vocals, with the singer's voice sounding even more vulnerable in such epic surroundings. The track will definitely appeal to all fans of Caribou.

Uncover is a big deviation from our usual offerings and I think that’s what makes this record so special to us. We took a more minimal approach for this one and definitely kept the dance floor at the forefront of our minds. It’s a sultry record that tells the story of a passionate perchance encounter between two strangers. The hypnotic percussive arp synths and Fractures’ delicate falsetto vocals intertwine so beautifully at the peak and we’re really proud of the end result.
