Actve Captve – Day In / Day Out

The single from Actve Captve formed by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Justin Han is a perfect pop song. But at the same time it feels totally uncoventional due to its structure. The verses talk of daily routines and bring a sense tension, akin to a somewhat tamed down version of Linkin Park, while the choruses embrace you with a feeling of warmth, harmony and relief.

Justin Han
For 'Day In, Day Out,' I wanted to explore the tension between the laid-back vibes of reggae rock and the high-energy pulse of dancehall and EDM. The idea was to create something that feels both chill and dynamic, reflecting the highs and lows of everyday life, and the back-and-forth between the critical inner voice and the positive desire for connection that shapes my human experience. The producer Jason Heninger blended rhythmic guitar riffs with deep basslines, letting the reggae rock roots set a foundation, while the electronic elements bring in this frenetic, club-like energy. It's all about keeping a balance—like how routine can feel repetitive yet vibrant at the same time. I wanted to create a musical sense of that constant push and pull, giving listeners the chance to find a shared experience of humanity within the song, and an acceptance of both the positive and negative elements of daily life.
