Macro/micro – Tengri (Macro/micro Remix)

Tommy Simpson's music released under the moniker Macro/micro has rarely been what we call "listener-friendly", but it has always aimed at the listener's deepest (and often darkest) emotions.

Tengri from Tommy's soundtrack to Streets Loud with Echoes is not an exception – the track is deeply touching, but the touch itself is rather soothing than stirring. On the remix the composer embraces the song's full potential. In the film Tengri sountracks a moment of spiritual unity. It was only logical to magically teleport the feeling to the dance floor.

The result is not a floor filler per se. It's more like a soothing post-rave tune that plays early in the morning for the remaining crowd who will never be the same again after the party has ended. Or a sountrack to a bus trip home after the best night of dancing in your life. You are so exhausted and enlightened at the same time, that you can feel the touch of the divine in every little thing you see from the bus window, just like you were able to when you were a child.

Tommy Simpson (Macro/micro)
As someone who is not religious but grew up with a Christian background, the Nietzschean paradox resonates strongly within me. It is impossible to believe in religion with sufficient scientific knowledge, but that knowledge does not fill the void in our hearts that religion once filled. As we collectively become more secular, it's important to find ways of replacing the rituals and sense of community that religion used to provide.

Since my teenage years, I've had this sense that concerts and, in particular, dance music is a form of "secular church", uniting large groups of people with ecstatic joy, community and an ineffable sense of purpose in life. I wanted to take Tengri (perhaps my warmest, more spiritually empathetic track I've released) to have a version that could be danced to, hopefully creating a sacred space where people could dance together with their hearts open.
The Drovers Unlimited Orchestra – Tomorrow Part 1

The genre-defying epic piece comes from Drovers Unlimited Orchestra Volume 3 – the final, posthumous release from Mike Kirkpatrick, a legendary Chicago-based musician, composer, and producer.

The track fuses jazz with Irish music and a million other things in ways you haven't imagined even in your wildest dreams. Backed by swinging percussion and frenetic drums, brass section lands on you like a swarm of all-devouring locusts on a golden ripe field. Then a magestic saxophone solo enslaves you like a night of headache and insomnia. You are drained in the sweetest way possible. And then more locusts land on your head.

This is how by the almighty power of music you become friends with the inevitable and undescribable, this is how you embrace the mysterious ways in which the divine manifests itself.

And apart from everything said above, the track is also just lots of fun! Enjoy and be sure to listen to the rest of the album (and trilogy) as well.
