Wandour is a multimedia artist originally from Indonesia who has been delivering since 2019 and isn't planning to stop. May 1 marks the date of his upcoming EP "Iridescent Serenade" — a treat for the lovers chill and warm indie house vibes. We were lucky to receive the EP before release. Read on to learn what to expect from the record.
The odyssey starts with "Serenade". The first things you hear are distorted synths and fragments of lonesome piano, reminiscent of the work of minimalist avant-garde composers. But soon the fragments are pulled together by the undeniably magnetic deep bass groove and crisp drums. It's always extra fun, when you hear live bass on a house track, and this is one of those cases!
"Higher" treads a similar sonic ground, but adds warm soulful vocals to the mix. The result is paradoxically uplifting and chill at the same time. A rare mix!
"Shine" evokes distant memories of classic 2000s dance music from its first seconds. And the clever use of filters and other effects adds extra sheen to the soundscape, making the result even more nostalgic. You can catch flavours of classic disco house like Roger Sanchez and Galleon and even hints of trance. The vocals are silky-smooth. All of this turns the track into a real journey down memory lane.
"Iridescent" brings together all sorts of vibes we heard on previous songs and pairs them with a tasty distorted synth bass line akin to the works of Justice.
"Glow" is notable for its super catchy hook set against cold and glossy organ textures. Live bass also plays an important role in the composition's sound.
The EP closes with "Away". It builds slowly but decidedly, turning into a full-on banger, while achieving an interesting goal of being the dreamiest track on the record.
The EP as a whole manages to sounds both futuristic and nostalgic – a feat not many artists are capable of. This sets Wandour apart as a true visionary of modern house music. His tracks are like a laboratory where he mixes opposites to achieve outstanding results: dreamy lo-fi textures set the scene for distorted leads, old school live bass creates the backbone for state-of-the-art synth sounds, and nostalgic soulful vocals are processed in unexpected and unheard of ways. "Iridescent Serenade" is recommended for all fans of dance music in search of music that treads new grounds and is marked by unique artistic touch.
